Individual Therapy for Adults
Individuals come to therapy for a variety of reasons including anxiety, depression, conflicts at work, relationship problems, parenting challenges, and much more. My approach to working with individuals is to help them recognize where they are getting stuck and help direct them down the path to a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT is often referred to as "third generation Cognitive Behavioral Therapy." In brief, the concept behind CBT was to help people recognize and change unhelpful thinking patterns and explore how their behavior, emotions, and thoughts are connected. Let's do an experiment. I want you, under no circumstances, to think of a pink elephant right now... how did that go? I am guessing it went as well as it has for you the last 1,000 times you decided to stop thinking a painful thought and "be positive." There is good news: ACT has a wonderful approach to changing our relationship to thoughts, rather than stopping the thoughts themselves. Ask yourself this question: am I making decisions in my life based on who I want to be or do I let my emotions drive me around each day? Emotions and thoughts are powerful and beautiful creatures, but we are more than our thoughts and our emotions. I can show you how to build a more meaningful life based on your personal life values.
